If I could only have one character return, Wilke would be it for me. The writers never should have allowed Austin Butler to get away from them. They should have made him a series regular, before making Gilles Marini's Angelo a series regular.

Wilke was more important to what the writers were trying to accomplish. Angelo could have easily been a guest star here and there as Bay's dad, especially since he died a short while later. Whereas Wilke's character was needed to provide a balance and keep the teen characters' stories consistent. Wilke was critical as Toby's best friend, as the guy who could see Emmett as a phony, as Bay's probable first crush, as Daphne's soulmate, who the switch cheated her from ever knowing.

Wilke was important to the story that the writers were telling. They just didn't seem to realize it.
