Sidekicks #68 ~ We Miss Them

Welcome to the Sidekicks (Ron/Hermione) Appreciation 68

Banner thanks to Tumblr

This thread is dedicated to those who support and appreciate the friendship and romance between Harry Potter’s two Sidekicks, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Why Sidekicks? Because that’s what they are. They’re both very protective and loyal to Harry AND to each other. They were not always on the friendliest of terms, in fact, their relationship was often punctured with many arguments and disagreements, bickering fights and bouts of jealousy but we all knew they were just signs of more intense and deeper feelings which, in fact, have developed and grown over the course of their seven year ‘courtship’ into something really special but completely inevitable. We all know that the greatest magic of all is love… and this is how theirs began…

Their Story:

Ron Weasley, who comes from a large and well-known, but poor, wizarding family, and Hermione Granger, who was raised as a Muggle and didn’t know she was a witch until receiving her letter from Hogwarts, didn’t start off on the best of terms. They met on their first train journey on the Hogwarts Express, when Ron was sharing a compartment alone with Harry Potter and Hermione came in looking for the “fugitive” toad ‘Trevor’, Neville Longbottoms’s pet. We certainly can’t say it was love at first sight with these two!

"All right -- I only came in here because people outside are behaving very childishly,
racing up and down the corridors," said Hermione in a sniffly voice.
"And you've got dirt on your nose, by the way, did you know?"
Ron glared at her as she left.

Ron, at first, thought she was an insufferable know-it-all, but it took an unexpected meeting with a troll to make him realize there is more to Hermione Granger than meets the eye. In Charms class, Hermione showed up Ron when performing the Levitation charm ‘Wingardium Leviosa’. When she overhears Ron declare her as a nightmare, she runs off crying and hides herself in the girls’ lavatory. She is still there when Professor Quirrell reports a troll is loose in the school, Ron along with Harry rush off to warn Hermione, but unknowingly shut the troll in the very bathroom she is occupying! They enter the room, and when he sees Hermione cornered by the troll, Ron with a swoosh of his wand, knocks out the troll with its own club while performing the same spell Hermione showed him in Charms class. When several faculty members confront them about their reckless behavior, Hermione, in turn, lies to protect the boys - this incident makes Ron see Hermione in a different light, and they become friends.

The threesome find a three-headed dog guarding a trapdoor in one of the rooms of a forbidden corridor of the school. They later deduce it must be guarding the famous “Philosopher’s Stone”. Fearing an imminent capture of the Stone by Professor Snape whom they believe wants to restore Voldemort to power, they get past the dog and also several ‘security’ charms set up by several of the teachers. Upon the last barrier, Ron is instrumental in their quest for the Stone. His talent at Wizard's Chess allows Hermione and Harry to proceed through a dangerous life-size, animated chess game. During the course of the game, Ron, who plays as a knight, allows himself to be ‘sacrificed’, and knocked unconscious so that his friends can go on to save the Stone. Of course, Hermione is rather upset and worried, but after Harry successfully impedes Voldemort’s attempt to get the Stone, Hermione and Harry are relieved to hear that Ron is well and will make a full recovery.

In their second year, they are faced with the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets, as well as a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, the pompous and vain Gilderoy Lockhart, whom Hermione we later learn has a small crush on. This is also Ron’s baby sister’s first year at the school, whom it’s discovered fancies Harry. Ron is present at a confrontation between Draco and Hermione, during which Draco calls Hermione a "Mudblood." Extremely insulted on Hermione's behalf, Ron tries to cast a curse on Draco, but instead, his broken wand malfunctions causing himself to be hit with a spell that causes him to vomit slugs.

The three friends find out that the chamber has been opened by the Heir of Slytherin. Several attacks occur in which a student, as well as Mr. Filch’s cat are ‘petrified’. Because of his ability to speak Parseltongue, Harry is suspected of being behind these attacks. A little later, another attack occurs and this time Hermione is the victim, which upsets Ron greatly. He even overcomes his intense fear of spiders to help her by discovering what is behind the attacks, when one night he and Harry go into the Forbidden Forest to seek out ‘Aragog’, a giant spider, who was believed to have been the monster released from the chamber that had been opened 50 years before.

Ron read the message, swallowed hard,
and looked sideways at the empty seat usually filled by Hermione.
The sight seemed to stiffen his resolve, and he nodded.

When Ron finds that his sister Ginny has been abducted and taken to the Chamber of Secrets where she may be left to die, he is desperately upset, as are his brothers and Harry. He and Harry discover that the way into the Chamber lies through the bathroom haunted by Moaning Myrtle. They enter the bathroom with Professor Lockhart, who has been volunteered to rescue Ginny and kill the basilisk residing in the Chamber. When the three enter the tunnels leading to the Chamber, Professor Lockhart attempts to perform a Memory Charm on them using Ron's wand. The wand backfires, casting the spell on Lockhart instead, and caving in the ceiling. Ron is trapped on one side and is forced to wait for Harry. Harry goes on to rescue Ginny and defeat the memory of Tom Riddle. Ron is elated when Harry returns with Ginny, and even more elated when he hears Hermione will be alright.

Third year starts with news that a prisoner, Sirius Black has escaped from the dreaded prison fortress ‘Azkaban’. Hermione takes all available new classes and this very full workload is a real conundrum for the boys, especially Ron. Ron's old pet rat Scabbers goes missing, and he blames it on Hermione's new cat Crookshanks. They have a falling out over this. Earlier, Hermione had also turned in the glorious Firebolt Harry received for Christmas - believing it to be jinxed - and this makes Ron even angrier. They eventually make up and Ron offers to help with the preparation of Buckbeak's defence for Hagrid from the rundown Hermione, which she is desperately thankful for.

"Yeah, it will," said Ron fiercely.
"You won't have to do all the work alone this time, Hermione. I'll help."
"Oh, Ron!"
Hermione flung her arms around Ron's neck and broke down completely.
Ron, looking quite terrified, patted her very awkwardly on the top of the head. Finally, Hermione drew away.

Harry, Ron and Hermione then go to see Hagrid on the execution day. But later as they try to leave quickly, Ron's rat Scabbers bites him and runs off. Ron chases him to the Whomping Willow. A huge black dog comes out of nowhere and drags Ron into the tunnel under the Whomping Willow that leads to the Shrieking Shack. Harry and Hermione follow after battling the Whomping Willow and the dog turns out to be the Animagus form of Sirius Black, and who turns out to be Harry's godfather. Professor Lupin, this year’s DADA teacher, arrives just after Harry and Hermione in the Shrieking Shack, and along with Sirius, Lupin casts a spell on Scabbers, who also turns out to be an Animagus by the name of Peter Pettigrew, a former friend of the two men, but now a servant of Lord Voldemort who gave his master information about where to find Harry's hidden parents thus bringing about their deaths.

During Harry's confrontation with then-supposed-murderer Black, Ron declares while trying to stand on his broken leg, "If you want to kill Harry, you'll have to kill us too!" Sirius tries to tell them he is actually innocent, and that Peter Pettigrew is the actual culprit. Ron is reluctant at first to believe Sirius, refusing to turn in Scabbers, but is disgusted when he learns his true identity. When Lupin turns into a werewolf under the full moon, Pettigrew attacks Ron and escapes. Ron is taken to the hospital wing while Harry and Hermione go back to try to save Sirius by going back through time, which is how Hermione managed to take so many classes at once. They manage to not only save Sirius but also save Buckbeak from being executed.

Sirius gives Ron an excitable little owl in compensation for Scabbers. Ron lets Crookshanks smell him before agreeing to keep him. Ginny later names the owl Pigwidgeon, Ron shortens it to “Pig”.

Fourth year brings about the Triwizard Tournament and teenage hormones. Ron, his father and twin brothers arrive by mistake - and much adventure - in a boarded up electric fireplace in the Dursley house to pick up Harry so that he can stay with them and go to the Quidditch World Cup. They go to the World Cup with Hermione, and most of the other members of the Weasley family. Ron gets to see his favorite Quidditch player Viktor Krum. Ron is even more excited when Krum comes to Hogwarts to take part in the Triwizard Tournament.

"Oh I see," Hermione said, bristling.
"So basically, you're going to take the best-looking girl who'll have you, even if she's completely horrible?"
"Er - yeah, that sounds about right," said Ron.

When the task of finding a date to the Yule Ball arrives, Ron loses his head and asks the superior Fleur Delacour, whom he has something of a crush on, which upsets Hermione. He ends up taking Padma Patil, while Harry, on the other hand, takes Padma's twin sister and fellow Gryffindor, Parvati. Ron is distraught over his horrid secondhand dress robes. The night doesn't get any better when Ron finds out that Hermione's partner for the Yule Ball is none other than one Viktor Krum, and is overcome with jealousy. At the end of the night, the two have a heated argument that ends with Hermione proclaiming, "Next time there's a ball, ask me before someone else does, and not as a last resort!"

For the first time in the series Ron and Harry have a massive falling out. They don't speak for weeks, as Ron thinks Harry put his name in the Goblet on purpose. This allows Hermione to spend a little more time alone with Ron, however knowing how much the two boys miss each other, she tries to bring about a reconciliation, without success. Later, they do reconcile after Harry successfully completes the first task and Ron realizes how dangerous it all is. Ron and Hermione help Harry with the remaining tasks of the Triwizard Tournament.

Ron and Hermione seemed to have
reached an unspoken agreement not to discuss their argument.
They were being quite friendly to each other, though oddly formal.

Upon completing the harrowing third task of the maze, Harry returns from his terrifying encounter with Voldemort, with Cedric’s body. When the two visiting schools leave Hogwarts, Ron learns that Viktor asked Hermione to visit him during the summer but overcomes his jealousy to finally ask him for his autograph, which Hermione happily witnesses.

In fifth year, the threesome learn about the Order of the Phoenix, a secret group, working independently from the Ministry of Magic, and founded by Albus Dumbledore. This year, finds Ron becoming a Gryffindor Prefect, much to the surprise of himself and his family and friends, and most notably Hermione. At Hogwarts, Ron explicitly shows his support and loyalty for Harry, when his classmates imply Harry is lying about the return of Voldemort. In this way Ron and Hermione, who was also named a Prefect, do their best to protect Harry throughout the year.

"How was practice?" asked Hermione rather coolly half an hour later,
as Harry and Ron climbed through the portrait hole into the Gryffindor common room.
"It was -" Harry began.
"Completely lousy," said Ron in a hollow voice, sinking into a chair beside Hermione.
She looked up at Ron and her frostiness seemed to melt.

Ron also becomes Keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Though not initially successful, he later overcomes his fear of performing in front of others to secure the Quidditch Cup for Gryffindor. In the meantime, Ron continues to dance around his feelings towards Hermione.

Though they spend their usual amount of time bickering with each other, Ron and Hermione put up a united front in endorsement of Harry, and sometimes against him. Ron supports Hermione's suggestion of Harry teaching them practical Defence Against the Dark Arts, and later helps in founding the secret students' group called 'Dumbledore's Army'.

"What do you think about this?" Hermione demanded of Ron,
and Harry was reminded irresistibly of Mrs. Weasley appealing
to her husband during Harry's first dinner at Grimmauld Place.

When Harry mistakenly believes that Sirius is at the Department of Mysteries and that he is in danger, he goes off wanting to help. In a special and secret room, he discovers a sphere bearing his name, which is later discovered holds a prophecy. Ron and Hermione battle the Death Eaters alongside Harry, Ginny, Luna and Neville. During the battle, the sphere shatters on the ground and Ron and Hermione are both seriously injured. Ron, when he was attacked by a brain and Hermione when cursed by a spell thrown by Antonin Dolohov. After recuperating at the infirmary, we later learn that both will make full recoveries, although Ron will remain scarred with deep, red welts.

Sixth year brings many changes, the more important of which, Professor Snape is now the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and Ron and Hermione in their worst fight of their six year friendship, one which almost tears them completely apart.

At Hogwarts, Ron, who has grown ever taller over the summer, attracts the attention of Lavender Brown by making a characteristically funny remark. Harry, as the new Quidditch Captain, picks Ron as Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, much to Cormac McLaggen's dismay. Because he had made derisive comments about Ron and Ginny, McLaggen is Confunded by Hermione and narrowly loses the try-out to Ron.

"You were going to ask me?" asked Ron, in a completely different voice.
"Yes," said Hermione angrily. "But obviously if you'd rather I hooked up with McLaggen..."
There was a pause while Harry continued to pound the resilient pod with a trowel.
"No, I wouldn't," said Ron, in a very quiet voice.

During an Herbology lesson, Hermione angrily reveals her intention of asking Ron to Professor Slughorn's Christmas party as her guest after he mocks her about being a favorite of Slughorn's. Following this announcement, a pleased Ron tones down his attitude towards her.

However, right after a Quidditch practice, Ron and Harry, while using a shortcut to return to Gryffindor Tower, inadvertently stumble onto Ginny and Dean Thomas, their fellow Gryffindor roommate, kissing fiercely. Ron is outraged about his sister 'snogging people in public', causing a heated argument between the siblings and, consequently, stemming from their argument, he comes to know that Hermione had kissed Viktor Krum and this causes a major lack of composure for a jealous Ron. Ron begins to treat Hermione very unkindly and Hermione has no idea why. Also, he performs badly at the Quidditch practice, and offers his resignation as Keeper, which Harry turns down.

"Ron seems to be enjoying the celebration."
"Er... does he?" said Harry.
"Don't pretend you didn't see him," said Hermione.
"He wasn't exactly hiding it, was -?"
The door behind them burst open.
To Harry's horror, Ron came in, laughing, pulling Lavender by the hand.

In order to reverse the situation, Harry pretends to dip Felix Felicis, the "luck potion", into Ron's breakfast juice, and as circumstances unfold, their next match against Slytherin turns out to be optimal since Ron, believing he has taken the luck potion, overcomes his usual lack of self-esteem and performs admirably. However, in the aftermath, Hermione and Ron have a fallout because Hermione accuses Harry of cheating, until he tells the truth which is that he only pretended to give him the potion. Ron then rounds on her for having no trust in his abilities and combine that with his hurt and the sense of betrayal he feels for Hermione kissing Krum, Ron is witnessed passionately kissing Lavender, later in the common room, leaving Hermione heartbroken.

Needless to say, this strains their relationship almost to the breaking point, so much so they virtually stop speaking.

After seeing them snogging again, she runs off crying and Harry worried about her, follows her, but later Ron, with Lavender in tow, stumbles into the deserted classroom in which Hermione seeked refuge. He sees that Hermione, with canaries flying around her head, is very upset, and it makes him uncomfortable. They exchange forced pleasantries and when she gets up to leave she turns around and hexes Ron with “Oppugno!” which prompts the canaries to attack him.

Hermione gave an almost inaudible sniff. She had been exceptionally
quiet all day. Having hurtled, white-faced, up to Harry outside the
hospital wing and demanded to know what had happened,
she had taken almost no part in Harry and Ginny's obsessive
discussion about how Ron had been poisoned, but merely
stood behind them, clench-jawed and frightened-looking,
until at last they had been allowed in to see him.

After Christmas, Hermione continues to ignore Ron, stopping only to give him looks of disdain and throwing the occasional snide remark. By now, Ron is visibly growing discontented with his relationship with Lavender. On his birthday, Ron is accidentally poisoned in Professor Slughorn's office. Harry quickly saves Ron's life by forcing a bezoar into his mouth. Ron is transferred to the hospital wing, where a panic-stricken Hermione shows up. She is relieved to hear he will survive and she stays with him. While unconscious, he becomes a little agitated and talks in his sleep, and he mumbles “Er-my-nee”. When Ron regains consciousness, the two mend their broken friendship and are quietly reconciled.

Shortly after this, Ron and Lavender break up, much to Ron's relief, and Hermione’s. It is not indicated as such, but we can only assume that the two grow steadily closer and their feelings grow deeper through the remainder of the year. Ron resignedly accepts Harry and Ginny's relationship when they end up together.

Initially, Ron does not support Harry's belief that Draco Malfoy became a Death Eater, but later on he becomes convinced. On the fateful night when Harry and Dumbledore leave Hogwarts to recover a Horcrux, Harry voices his fears that Malfoy could use Dumbledore's absence to launch an attack. He arranges for Ron, Hermione, and Ginny - together with any of the Dumbledore's Army members they could summon - to keep a close watch on Malfoy and Snape. Harry also provides them with his Felix Felicis, to aid them in the effort. Despite the D.A.'s watch, Malfoy escapes and gives the Death Eaters entrance into Hogwarts, and the Battle of Hogwarts ensues. The D.A., along with several members of the Order of the Phoenix, find themselves locked in heavy combat with the Death Eaters; but Ron, Hermione, and Ginny were unharmed by any of the Death Eaters' hexes, due to the protection of the luck potion.

After these events and Dumbledore's funeral on the Hogwarts grounds, the school is set to close and Ron with Hermione, make a vow to stay with Harry, to help him find and destroy the Horcruxes and kill Voldemort, even if it means leaving Hogwarts in the process. During Dumbledore’s funeral, Harry fearing Voldemort will use Ginny to hurt him, breaks up with her. Meanwhile, Ron and Hermione, comfort each other by holding onto each other. This close intimacy can only suggest that the two friends have faced the inevitable… they are made for each other and meant to be.

Seventh year, finds Hogwarts open for the new school year, but Ron and Hermione, as they promised Harry at the end of term, are not returning for their final year. They embark on the hunt for the Horcruxes with Harry. It’s a very different world to what they have come to know. Voldemort’s power is far reaching and the Ministry is basically under his control, as he has many of his followers in positions of control there. Ron and Hermione have both gone to extraordinary measures to ensure the safety of both their families while they go off with Harry in search of what will ultimately bring Voldemort’s demise. Extraordinary changes have happened between Ron and Hermione as well. He has grown much more confident and at ease in openly showing his affections for Hermione. He has become more considerate of her feelings and is often seen comforting her whenever she is in need of it.

Ron tripped dazedly toward Harry and Hermione.
"You're okay," he mumbled, before Hermione flew at him and hugged him tightly.
"I thought - I thought -"
"'M all right," said Ron, patting her on the back. "'M fine."

They help in the mission to rescue Harry from the Dursley’s house, as his protection there will shortly be over the minute he turns 17. After some harrowing moments, Harry and Hagrid make it back to The Burrow virtually unscathed, but without Hedwig who was killed. Hermione, with Lupin, are the next to make it back safely. But still no word or sign from Ron. He eventually returns safely, much to Hermione’s relief, with Tonks, who praises him for his quick and steady wand work in fighting Death Eaters. The Burrow then becomes a flurry of activity as they prepare for Bill and Fleur’s wedding. Ron and Hermione tell Harry what they did to keep their families safe, Hermione who altered her parents memories and Ron who thought up the idea of having the ghoul impersonate him, while afflicted with spattergoit, in order to more easily explain his absence from school.

Before leaving on their quest, they were given items left to them by Dumbledore in his will. The Tales of Beedle the Bard to Hermione, and Dumbledore’s own personal Deluminator to Ron. During the wedding, which Krum was invited to, and unlike in the past, although still a little jealous, Ron reacts quite differently, he goes so far as to ask Hermione to dance. However, they are forced to leave in rather of a hurry when Death Eaters crash the wedding. They end up seeking refuge at Grimmauld Place. With Kreacher’s help, they locate the lost Slytherin locket… in Dolores Umbridge’s possession, at the Ministry.

She was impeded by her own Shield Charm; by the time she had removed it,
he had already stormed into the night. Harry stood quite still and silent,
listening to her sobbing and calling Ron's name amongst the trees.
After a few minutes she returned, her sopping hair plastered to her face.
"He's g-g-gone! Disapparated!"
She threw herself into a chair, curled up, and started to cry.

They think up a plan to infiltrate the Ministry by polyjuicing themselves as employees there. However, they get separated from each other, but find their way back together and while they finally manage to escape, Ron gets unfortunately splinched when the Death Eater Yaxley grabs onto them when they disapparate from the Ministry. They land near a forest, where the Quidditch World Cup had taken place, and Hermione tends to an injured Ron and does her best to heal him. While hiding out in various forests, under protective charms, they decide to take turns wearing the locket in order to better keep it safe and searching for ways to destroy it. However, the dreaded locket takes its toll on all of them, but in varying degrees. Ron, the worst of the three, however. Harry and Hermione change slightly while wearing it but with Ron, it makes him act moodier and much more broodingly than he’s ever been before. After weeks of this, and during one of his worst and foulest moods, Ron gets really angry and despite the fact that Hermione goes running after him, begging him to stay, he leaves.

Several weeks go by, and Ron eventually returns. He finds Harry first, whom he sees struggling for air, as he’s wearing the locket, in an icy pool, after Harry followed a ‘silver doe’; and he eventually pulls him out and in the process he retrieves the sword of Godric Gryffindor which was lying at the bottom of the pool. Harry tells Ron to destroy the Horcrux locket by using the sword, as he believes he is meant to be the one to do it. As Harry opens the locket by speaking Parseltongue, the locket starts taunting him and playing on his insecurities and when Ron doesn’t back down from the taunts, two willowy figures appear which look like Harry and Hermione and they start taunting him and kissing; almost overcome with despair at the sight of his two best friends in such a ‘display’, he finally destroys the locket. Harry assures Ron that he only loves Hermione as a sister and that Hermione cried over him for weeks and refused to speak of him. And that with him gone, nothing was the same, that his absence had cost both of them so much.

Hermione slid out of her bunk and
moved like a sleepwalker toward Ron, her eyes upon his pale face.
She stopped right in front of him, her lips slightly parted,
her eyes wide. Ron gave a weak, hopeful smile and half raised his arms.
Hermione launched herself forward and started punching every inch of him that she could reach.

When they make it back to the tent, it’s not exactly the reunion Ron expected… she slowly approached him and started… yelling and pummeling him for leaving! He tells her [and Harry who’s tried to be inconspicuous during their “reunion”] his story of how he attempted to return the minute he left but that he was prevented from coming back but that he knew they were still alive. He then tells her that what helped him find his way back to them was… Hermione’s voice… through Dumbledore’s Deluminator.

Hermione doesn’t really want to hear any of it and she continues to yell at him and things remain tense between them for some weeks after his return but Ron is happier than he’s been in a while. They continue to help Harry on his quest. After receiving news about the Order from a covert radio program run by the Order, they are apprehended by the infamous werewolf, Fenrir Greyback, who’s in league with a group of wizards looking for muggle-borns. When Greyback discovers they have their hands on Harry Potter, he takes them to Malfoy Manor. They are met there by the members of the Malfoy family, which includes Bellatrix Lestrange, whom decides to give Hermione to Greyback after she’s had her fun with her. Upon hearing this, Ron begs them to take him in her place, but is locked up in the basement. He is absolutely frantic with worry and beside himself when he hears Bellatrix torturing Hermione with the Cruciatus Curse. He tries everything he can to get to her but he can’t escape from where he’s being held. However, Dobby comes to the rescue. With his help, they escape from their captors and take refuge at Bill and Fleur’s cottage. Sadly, Dobby does not make it back alive.

Hermione recovers while at the cottage and the trio hatch a plan to break into Gringott’s Bank in order to retrieve Helga Hufflepuff’s cup from the Lestrange’s vault. Over the course of their search for Horcruxes they are led to believe that the Cup would most likely be a very appealing vessel for a part of Voldemort’s soul. In order for the plan to work, Hermione polyjuices herself into Bellatrix, and they narrowly escape… with the help of a blind, but hotly fire-breathing dragon!

"No," said Ron seriously, "I mean we should tell them to get out.
We don't want any more Dobbies, do we? We can't order them to die for us -"
There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs
cascaded out of Hermione's arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around
his neck and kissed him full on the mouth.
Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick
he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm
that he lifted Hermione off her feet.
"Is this the moment?" Harry asked weakly,
and when nothing happened except Ron and Hermione
gripped each other still more firmly
and swayed on the spot, he raised his voice.
"OI! There's a war going on here!"
Ron and Hermione broke apart, their arms
still around each other.

They head back to Hogwarts for the final battle. As they make preparations for it, Ron comes up with a plan to retrieve basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets, with Hermione’s help, Ron opens the Chamber after several attempts at speaking Parseltongue, imitating the sounds he heard Harry make over the years, when he succeeds in opening the Chamber, they disappear into it and while they are there Hermione destroys Hufflepuff’s Cup. There are only two left now, Rowena Ravenclaw’s diadem and Nagini, Voldemort’s snake. They discover that Ravenclaw’s headdress might still be in the school, right under their noses. While on the search for it, Ron has the idea of warning the house-elves to get to safety. Instantly impressed with his sincerity and care for the tiny creatures, Hermione launches herself at him and kisses him. Ron is so pleased he instantly lifts her off the ground and they continue kissing, even despite Harry’s attempts at interrupting them! But he finally reminds them there’s a war going on and more pressing matters to attend to!!

Ron and Hermione both fight during the final battle and make it through unharmed, but Fred is lost, as well as Lupin and Tonks, who are parents of a baby boy named Teddy.

After the war, we find out that in the interim years between the final battle and the 19 or so years that have gone by, Ron helped George at Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes after Fred’s death and that Hermione brought her parents home and got a job at the Ministry of Magic in Law Enforcement, and later as a lawyer. Ron also eventually got a job at the Ministry and became an Auror, and with Harry, revolutionized the entire Department.

Ron and Hermione later married and we find them at the end of the story, on platform 9 ¾ seeing off their first-born child, a girl named Rose who’s off to her first year at Hogwarts. We also find out that they have another child, a younger son who goes by the name of Hugo. They seem like a small, loving, close-knit and very happy family.

Who said that there is no such thing as a happy ending? It seems like a perfectly perfect ending to us.

  • "I know what everyone knows, that two people are going to die and that Ron is in love with Hermione. Nothing else." ~ taken from this article (in Spanish)

Emma Watson:
  • Coralie: "I overheard you saying that you predict that Ron and Hermione will end up together, but if it was not the case, what would be your second choice for her?"
“Ummm…Probably single. She’s got to be with Ron. It has to be Ron, that’s all I can say!"

  • ACED: Let me ask you... how many kids do you think Ron & Hermione will have?
(laughter) "ummmm. Well, I don't know... Weasleys do have big families. I'm not sure how Hermione will feel about that." (laughter)

  • "There's always sexual tension with Ron, that's never going to go" ~ taken from an article in Film Review

  • "I want to see her putting her intellect and her naturally very caring nature to some very worthy cause ... generally making the world a better world. Being married to Ron (Weasley, a friend of Potter's, played by Rupert Grint) and having beautiful babies." ~ channelnewsasia

  • "I'm actually, I'd quite like to see Hermione and Ron together, I mean, it's gotta happen! You know? It's just THERE!"

  • "I really hope that Hermione and Ron get together in the end, because, I think they make a good couple."

  • " No, they're really not there, I really think it's with Ron though, I really think he's jealous, I really think when she goes to the ball with Viktor Krum, he's jealous."

  • "Well, actually, nothing actually happens to Hermione and Ron in this one, just he gets very jealous because she turns up to the ball with Viktor Krum."

  • "It's kind of one of those classic love-hate romance going on between Hermione and Ron. But I think deep down they have a bit of a soft spot for each other."

  • "Between Ron and Hermione, it's one of those classic love-hate relationships. And on the outside, they are constantly fighting, and so they argue all the time, but I think deep down they have a bit of a soft spot for each other."

  • "Aw, cmon, you know its gotta be Hermione and Ron!"

  • "Well, Harry's the hero, I suppose, but honestly not for Hermione."

  • "Hermione is just fine like she is right now. She realizes that she has feelings for Ron and that he returns those feelings. So I'll give you an honest answer and confess: I really hope those two end up together!"

  • Lizo: Do you think they are well suited?
"NO! They are completely not suited. But that is what makes them so sweet, I guess."

  • Who do you think Hermione should end up with: Ron, Harry, or Draco?
"Ron, all the way. It’s just so obvious that there’s something going on there, that they’re wrong for each other but they’re so right. I just think they’re really cute."

  • The seventh [Harry Potter] book is nearing. What would you like to happen for Hermione?
"For her to be happy—and probably with Ron."

  • In The Order Of The Phoenix Harry gives his first kiss to Cho Chang. What about Hermione and Ron?
“Now it is clear to everybody that it is not just friendship between them. Everybody except them, of course. It is so typical, girls tend to end up with those guys who most annoy them, who most get them angry, who most behave horribly. Ron acts exactly like this towards Hermione. But their relationship will develop somehow, sooner or later. They will become a couple, I’m sure. Ron amuses her, which is what Hermione needs. And she keeps him in line. A perfect couple.”
Taken from an interview she gave the Italian magazine, Donna, in their May 2007 issue

Daniel Radcliffe:
  • "But the sideline story between Ron and Hermione is one of my favourites, as it's just a cover-up so they can get attention of each other. There's a huge amount of sexual tension between them, which is great and provides much-needed comic relief because the film [PoA] is very depressing and angry."

  • Lizo: Do you think Ron and Hermione are suited?
"Yeah absolutely, very much so - they are complete polar opposites but suit each other perfectly."

- "I think Hermione's beginning to acknowledge the fact that she has feelings for him, which she's never done," says Watson.
- Because Kloves' version is merely a cheap copy of JKR's?
