When I was in Amsterdam (I spent about a month in The Netherlands when my then boyfriend was playing hockey over there) I actually had someone ask to show me where I lived on their hand when I told them I lived in Michigan.
I was kind of shocked, that's usually just a Michigander thing to know to do. But it turned out he had been to Michigan before. But then I had it happen again when we were in France, so I guess it is ignorant for me to believe that just because I'm not on top of my European geography that most Europeans don't know anything about the States.
Oh and speaking of that Iceland trip he randomly took by himself, I found that fan encounter picture.
