Stag&Doe {James♥Lily} #13: "She hated him." "Nah, she didn't."

the last enemy that shall be destroyed is death
Lily Evans, born on January 30th of 1960, and James Potter, born on March 27th of the same year, couldn't be more different from each other. Lily was a muggleborn, and she didn't know what magic really was until she started her first year on Hogwarts. James on the other hand, was a pureblood, and his family was considered one of the most important and influent families on the magical world.
They met for the first time on the training ride to Hogwarts, on September 1st of 1971. Their first conversation didn't start out well, foreshadowing their interactions for the next years, and the many fights they would have.
James was one of the most popular students at school. His talent for Quidditch, his good grades and his playful personality made him loved by almost everybody. However his mischievous attitude and his love for pranks made a negative impact on some people, including Lily. Even though James always seemed to be very fond of Lily, his feelings weren't reciprocated for a long time. She simply couldn't stand his trouble-maker attitude and his arrogant manners.
On the 6th year, James started to become more mature and more responsible, which was one of the reasons why he was selected for the Head Boy position on his 7th year, right next to Lily. Both Head Boy and Head Girl had to work together and eventually started to become friends. Lily found herself enjoying James’s company, and she eventually accepted one of his many invitations to go out.
They started dating on their 7th year, marrying shortly after their graduation from Hogwarts. They got together in the middle of terrifying times and an upcoming war, and they made it work, despite having a lot of people judging their relationship.
James and Lily never stopped fighting against the Dark Arts. They were members of the Order of the Phoenix, and defied Voldemort three times.
With only 20 years old, James and Lily became parents of the boy who would change the magical world forever. Harry was born on July 31st, bringing happiness to the Potter family, but also a terrible warning in the form of a prophecy. Their son became a target to Voldemort, which forced James and Lily to hide, in order to protect their family. However, they suffered a betrayal from one of their friends, and Voldemort was able to find them. On the faithful night of Halloween, on October 31st of 1981, with only 21 years, James and Lily were murdered, while trying to save Harry.
Even though the two of them died, their sacrifices were not in vain. Their example of how far love goes is pivotal to Harry's own quest to defeat Voldemort once and for all. And because of that, they will forever be remembered as heroes.
James and Lily fought the odds. They were opposites in personality, in interests, in blood status, and they still made it work, proving that not only opposites attract, but they also complete each other perfectly.
Harry stared at Wormtail for a moment, then back at James, who was now
doodling on a bit of scrap parchment. He had drawn a Snitch and was now
tracing the letters 'L.E.' What did they stand for?

"Oh, well, he always made a fool of himself whenever Lily was around," said Sirius,
shrugging," He couldn’t stop himself from showing off whenever he got near her."
"How come she married him?" Harry asked miserably. "She hated him!"
"Nah, she didn’t," said Sirius.
"She started going out with him in seventh year," said Lupin.
"Once James had deflated his head a bit," said Sirius.

He looked in the mirror again. A woman standing right behind his reflection was
smiling at him and waving. He reached out a hand and felt the air behind him.
If she was really there, he’d touch her, their reflections were so close together,
but he felt only air — she and the others existed only in the mirror. She was a
very pretty woman. She had dark red hair and her eyes — her eyes are just like
mine, Harry thought, edging a little closer to the glass. Bright green — exactly the
same shape, but then he noticed that she was crying; smiling, but crying at the
same time. The tall, thin, black-haired man standing next to her put his arm around
her. He wore glasses, and his hair was very untidy. It stuck up at the back, just as
Harry’s did. Harry was so close to the mirror now that his nose was nearly
touching that of his reflection. “Mom?” he whispered. “Dad?” The Potters smiled
and waved at Harry and he stared hungrily back at them, his hands pressed flat
against the glass as though he was hoping to fall right through it and reach them.
He had a powerful kind of ache inside him, half joy, half terrible sadness.

James was exactly the same height as Harry. He was wearing the clothes in
which he had died, and his hair was untidy and ruffled, and his glasses were a
little lopsided, like Mr Weasley’s. Sirius was tall and handsome, and younger by
far than Harry had seen him in life. He loped with an easy grace, his hands in his
pockets and a grin on his face. Lupin was younger too, and much less shabby,
and his hair was thicker and darker. He looked happy to be back in this familiar
place, scene of so many adolescent wanderings. Lily’s smile was widest of all.
She pushed her long hair back as she drew close to him, and her green eyes, so
like his, searched his face hungrily as though she would never be able to look at
him enough. "You’ve been so brave." He could not speak. His eyes feasted on her,
and he thought that he would like to stand and look at her forever, and that
would be enough.
"You are nearly there," said James. "Very close. We are... So proud of you."
"Does it hurt?"
The childish question had fallen from Harry’s lips before he could stop it.
"Dying? Not at all," said Sirius. "Quicker and easier than falling asleep."
"And he will want it to be quick. He wants it over," said Lupin.
"I didn’t want you to die," Harry said. These words came without his volition.
"Any of you. I’m sorry -" He addressed Lupin more than any of them, beseeching him.
"-right after you’d had your son... Remus, I’m sorry -"
"I am sorry too," said Lupin. "Sorry I will never know him... But he will know why
I died and I hope he will understand. I was trying to make a world in which he
could live a happier life." A chilly breeze that seemed to emanate from the heart
of the Forest lifted the hair at Harry’s brow. He knew that they would not tell
him to go, that would have to be his decision.
"You’ll stay with me?"
"Until the very end," said James.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows; The Forest Again
"Harry, you were so loved. So loved! Harry, mama loves you.
Dadda loves you. Harry be safe. Be strong."
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part II (movie)
"The Patronus often mutate to take the
image of the love of one's life, because
they often become the 'happy thought'
that generates a Patronus."

J.K.R.: She [Lily] was a popular girl, and that is relevant.
But I think you've seen that already. She was a bit of a catch.
M.A.: How did they get together? She hated James, from what we've seen.
J.K.R.: Did she really? You're a woman, you know what I'm saying.
