I don't think she did it because she wanted to fit in, I think she was doing it FOR her sister. I agree that Lindsay never wanted to fit in the hetero concept, but she wanted to make her sister happy for her night.
Unfortunately, like anytime we compromise our principals, resentment sets in. Lindsay just couldn't take it anymore. Her sister's marriage(s) were a farce as far as commitment went, and Lindsay's marriage to Mel meant more.
