Like seriously... even when she was human she seemed pretty freaking cruel.. taking not only Damon's toys when he was
'misbehaving', but also Stefan's.. trying to pit her boys against each other, trying to manipulate her young son!! I thought maybe it was the vampirism that made her cold to her family, but honestly?? Even her human self seems like she could be a real cruel bitch.
