I was reading on the Disney Wiki about Maleficent. There was a brief entry on her in Once.

Beg to differ. She's not sadistic and cruel. Ruthless and, at times, vengeful, sure, but she doesn't seem to enjoy cruelty for cruelty's sake. I'd also argue the "only" two things she cares about. She became quite upset when Ursula attacked her staff.
Also (although this was about the cartoon) she's a boss who throws a party even for her incompetent henchmen once the goal has finally been achieved, no thanks to them.
