Well in the pilot he said he noticed her lipstick and that she looked pretty but that's as far as it went - I think he had an idea maybe at this point
And in beauty contest he finally noticed her and then she walked away and he said I thought this was what you wanted. Making me think he already had an idea that she liked him.
And he brought up that she was worried about their relationship changing in the double date episode.
