I'm going to stick my neck out and offer a different opinion. This is a vampire show and there has been plenty of murder. I didn't find this anymore shocking or brutal than when Klaus killed the Mayor. What at least gave Jo's death weight was seeing Alaric's grief. Frankly, I'm glad Kai was truly terrible and JP and company didn't try and redeem him. For once a villain wasn't kept around to long or changed to the point that made them stupid.
