Casually dating has nothing to do with romantic love, it's all about lust. The fact that Iris wasn't seeking romantic love, was clearly because she already had that with Barry. He was pretty much her boyfriend, except for the sex part.

And since Iris and Barry's love predates adolescence, I don't think the sex part being out of the equation is that weird.
