I doubt The Flash will be on as long as Smallville but even if it were, there's no way the writers will drag out stories forever. First off, that simply wouldn't work on tv today. Viewers aren't going to wait years for pay off, not when there's so many options/shows that move at such a fast pace. And I think the showrunners understand that. Hence, why we saw Barry donning the Flash suit in the pilot, Barry getting his name in episode 6, Barry time traveling in the last episode. And we already know that Iris will be in on the secret before the season is over. Once that happens, there will probably be some angst between her and Barry but I really don't see that lasting beyond next season. I think they'll be together by then.
