| Yes, StellaSlight is right, there was an attempt in 1995, i think, to crash a plane on the Eiffel Tower, but a group of intervention called the GIGN prevented it.
Anyway, Europe has always had to fight terrorism, long before Al-Qaida : Action Directe in the 70's in France, and the FIS in the 80's/90's. IRA for Great Britain, ETA for Spain, the RED Brigades for Italy.
