| Man arrested for carrying concealed alligators From the "Sometimes the jokes just write themselves" department: Quote: Man arrested for carrying concealed alligators
WINDSOR, ONT. - An Ontario man has been arrested at the Canada-U.S. border after customs agents found four baby alligators clinging to the inside of his jacket.
Renato Rinomota, 34, was driving back from the United States via the Windsor-Detroit tunnel on Jan. 23 when his vehicle was pulled over for an inspection.
When Canada Customs agents searched Rinomota, they say they found four tiny American alligators concealed in his clothing.
"It's not a common type of seizure," said Danny Yen, a Canada Customs spokesperson.
Yen said the alligators, which are an internationally controlled species, were "a few inches long" when they were seized.
Rinomota is charged with failure to report an alligator, unlawful possession of an alligator and smuggling.
The resident of Woodbridge, just north of Toronto, appeared before a Windsor judge Monday. He will be back in court on April 5.
If convicted, Rinomota could face a five-year prison sentence and a $5,000 fine on each of the counts.

"Failure to report an alligator" ... we actually have a law for that? Who knew?
