Again, the Univerisal National Service Act is not the same as a military draft.
You could of fooled me because I would like to know why all of a sudden people are worrying about a draft.

Hmm...lets go back to the original article that was posted:

Quote:
The current agenda of the US federal government is to reinstate the draft in order to staff up for a protracted war on "terrorism." Pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills S 89 and HR 163) would time the program so the draft could begin at early as Spring 2005 -- conveniently just after the 2004 presidential election!
Now I'm SURE you know that S89/HR163 are more commonly known as the "Universal National Service Act." This article doesn't differentiate between the act and the draft, so why are you? There really is no difference, except for who is included and how it would work.

Side Note: ((If it werent't for these two bills, people wouldn't even be talking about a draft.))

Do you understand how a draft would work? They don't just say, "DRAFT TOMMOROW!" Both Congress and the President must authorize a draft, then the process would begin.

But it's not as if Congress and the President are considering authorizing a draft. They aren't. But, there are bills that have been proposed that would re-instate a draft that would not be selective; ALL YOUTH would have to serve.

It's also important to note that this "draft" would happen in times of war AND in times of peace. So it's not as if every young person would be going to war; a majority WOULDN'T.

I mean let's be honest, how many people actually want a draft? I know I sure don't, but if a draft is inevitable (which I don't think it is), I would want it to be non-selective.

THIS ACT is what you should be concerned about, not just Congress authorizing a regular military draft.
