Yeah, I did notice, that's why I put it in the things he has in common with Klaus list. Maybe, but I still think he's there to replace Klaus, made more obvious to me by his current obsession with Stefan and interest on Caroline (reminds you of anyone?), he might have turned out more like a Damon 2.0, but the fact that a "sexy" british bad boy showed up a season after Klaus left is definitely not a coincidence.
He gets hate because he's a badly written idiot, being a Klaus replacement is just the cherry on top, at least for me. I never said he's worse than them, but he's definitely not better either. They are all on the same level of awfulness.
