From what I've heard the third season will probably go back to only 6 episodes, or 8. I don't think that's out of financial consideration, though. It seems like the producer of the show has pretty good sway with the company.
Rectify really is one of the best shows on television but it's also very esoteric, slow pacing, odd narrating technique. That just makes it better in my book but I can see people used to fluff having trouble to relate. It's almost like an "art film" type of series.
