I think after 6 years I just know how their minds may work and if I stop believe in that, I should consider to leave the show

It felt strange to me too, TBH
I think his "giving up" won't last long, I think he's just lost and he fears to let himself have hope, his pain must be so unbarable, he lost his brother after all
But I think it's just a phase, he'll be back on rail sooner than later
