Probably because political correctness is more important today than it was 40 years ago.
At least, that would be my guess.
And you're right, they can't be
made to change their name.
At the same time, people don't have to buy merchandise or advertising from them either.
So there are definitely pressure tactics that can be used.
Legal ones, too.
