Their relationship in s1 had that young, passionate feel to it but in s4, it was so much more. They had gone through a lot of ups and downs, as a couple and as individuals. They broke each others heart countless times but through it all, they still cared about each other. They became close friends in s4 which only added a layer to their relationship that wasn't there before.
