I think his scene with Lily gave us some good insight to how it made him feel. He wasn't shocked by being killed off, or even how he died (loved the snarky joke about it). It was how accurate his body being found was. It wasn't a friend or a lover or family, but hotel staff. Once Upon a Time, Blair would have found him. But she's about to be married. He's alone- painfully alone, and Dan's book shows that everyone else knows it, too.
