And regarding the ring he had on, I wondered about that also, but somewhere in the last episode it was explained why it didn't work. And I can't remember what it was. But it is there as Elena was exclaiming it.
However, I have high hopes for Jeremey coming back. No one stays dead here for long. How many times now have Klaus and Rebecca been supposedly dead and gone? They always make a come back. Even Kol and Elijah. However, Elijah has been gone quite a while. I think Finn is gone for good though. He was burned up.
