I really loved Neville and Luna, separately and together. I was a bit disappointed that they didn't end up together in the books, but I felt good when JK Rowling said that she did feel the "pull" between the two characters.
Probably, when JK Rowling was making the world of Harry Potter, she already assigned the relationships between some of the not-quite fleshed out characters yet, and she has Nevile and Luna with other people. It was only after writing that she saw the characters (they always take a life of their own) were drawn to each other as she developed them.
Anyway, I'm glad the last movie had that scene between them, so supporting them wasn't really a loss.
