I've often wondered that myself - I've seen deleted things for movies before and it's the same thing, something that would have helped clarify things or made something 'better.'
In Roswell's case, the explanation probably would have improved things somwhat, but it probably wouldn't have changed my opinion regarding 'not liking the type of change.'
