I didn't hate Kate, so much as I hated what the writers would do to her when they had her flopping at Jack's feet. It was degrading to see her grovel, crying and apologizing constantly for just being herself. Having her act that way, after we'd seen in other instances what a tough, independent, capable and kickass Outlaw she could be, was disappointing and unrealistic.

She was always her real self with Sawyer. Moments like 'I Never'; pulling a gun on the Others & going back-to-back with Sawyer, opening fire; scaling the bars of her cage and smashing Sawyer's cage open with a rock; snatching the gun and threatening to blow Jason's leg off; swan-diving into the ocean to escape the Island; those sorts of moments were Kate. Her other 'Monica' moments were disgusting, but fortunately, her scenes with Sawyer dominated her story. Well, at least until she was dead & rotting, that is. And even then, she couldn't stop flirting with him through cage bars.
