Even if he did love her, like the rest of season 4, they found ways to jump the shark. I was thinking of writing a snarky parody of the whole season. Something like:
Crazy writer: Okay, we're going to have Rick come back, but because of last year, he's going to be bullied by everyone. Well, except Sean, Ellie, Toby, and Manny. Oh, and Toby will be his only friend.
Toby: Ooh, this'll be fun. We can play Dungeons and Dragons all day.
Rick: Oh god kill me now.
Crazy writer: That's a great idea.
Emma: You can't kill off characters just like that!
Crazy writer: You and your big mouth. I bet there's more we can use your mouth for. (Shows jelly bracelet.)
Emma: With who?
Crazy writer: Here's a clue: You've known him for a long time and hate him.
Sean: But that's not like Emma at all!
Ellie: Yeah, and Sean's with me!
Crazy writer: Not for long. But don't worry your pretty head. It's not Sean, but it's someone a lot like Sean.
Alex: It's Jay.
Crazy writer: This girl's smart enough to run for class president.
Alex: But I like Jay.
Crazy writer: And just for that, you'll get gonorrhea too. And you'll be wearing the mascot uniform.
Ashley: But you can't change characters like that! I mean, Emma going down on Jay? Isn't she a feminist?
Crazy writer: Just for that, your storyline will be completely dependent on your relationship with Craig.
Ashley: But he's not my boyfriend any more! He was ****ing Manny Santos!
Manny: That's true. I didn't exactly get pregnant on my own.
Crazy writer: But you'll forgive him and he'll come back to you. But he'll be bipolar and eventually you'll leave him, and he'll end up homeless.
Marco: But Ash is too compassionate to . . .
Crazy writer: Okay, then, we'll break you up with Dylan and make Craig totally gay for you but never do anything about it.
JT: You realize this won't measure up to the last three seasons.
Crazy writer: Okay, Manny leaves you because you have a little inch worm. Happy?
Paige: I didn't think Manny was that interested in another sexual relationship. After Craig,
Crazy writer: Well, for that, Barbie, we're going to bring Dean back. Then Spinner will leave you for Manny, you'll fall for a teacher, Manny'll tell everyone, and you'll have this huge fight with porno-sounding music in the background.
Spinner: Manny Santos? w00t! Looks like I'm finally gettin some action.
Crazy writer: Well, "Honeybee", I wouldn't get your hopes up. You'll betray Jimmy, ruining his life, and she'll leave you after all your friends decide you can just go to hell.
Jimmy: Well, at least I have a storyline.
Hazel: And maybe I'll have more scenes.
Crazy writer: Well, you still won't have many scenes.
Hazel: Rats!
Manny: I'm still on how I'm treating Paige. I mean, I owe her a lot. She got me interested in cheerleading, taught me to dress like a ****, and taught me about condoms.
Crazy writer: Well, for that, Manuela, you'll fall in love with this new guy. (Shows picture of Chester.)
Manny: I suppose he's cute, in a Down Syndrome sort of way.
