I believe it was good for Ephram to see a different side of the single parent relationship. Because Andy was forced into the single parent situation, even though Julia had pretty much been doing the single parent thing for years with an absentee husband. But with Kyle's father, he chose. He chose no contact. He chose not to know his son, not to care about birthdays or anything. I think in Season 1, Ephram just felt so alone. And with Kyle's situation, Ephram can see that there are other kids out there who have a gift but don't really have the ideals to do it. I believe with Kyle, it gave Ephram an insight on what his passion really is. Not just playing music to take him to a different place, but to help someone else get to that different place and know there is a better place then where they are right now
