I agree with you, Carey is much better actress.
But I saw the Swedish movie 2 days ago and I have to say I can easily picture Kristen in that role - I'm talking just about the looks. The girl has black short hair, she's skinny and tomboyish, so I can understand that Kristen was the first girl they thought about.
