That Denzel story is very sad. They did the same to him as they did to George, it seems.
I've only remembered St. Elsewhere from reruns and the last few seasons watching with my sister. One of my friends recalls the entire series and noted a number of parallels. In his estimate Burke's basic template is Dr. Chandler but IW chose to make him arrogant and cocky. Second George failed intern exams hews close to the plot of Dr. Morrison flunking his residency exam. This dismayed me since this will be yet another George storyline Shonda stole from another show. Did she really lose direction for him so early?

The mirroring between DW's and TR's reception with the Hollywood press goes deeper. In the first two seasons the critics liked DW and his character. Being fan favorite, critical raves, and the prominence of Bill Cosby and Philip Michael Thomas in TV the producers felt the time was right for him to be heavily featured. Suddenly the critics became uneasy and started to complain about the very same traits they once praised. TPTB made him less noticeable.

At the time there was basically TV Guide and People for print and ET for TV. They all neglected or barely included DW as the show's hunks. They would even mention Ed Begley, Jr. as a cuddly, nerdy hunk over the more traditionally handsome DW. It reminded me of the conversations surrounding replacing TR with another actor as George. Some welcomed a "hotter" actor and the same were excited when it seemed Dominic Monaghan was cast. DM has never been considered a romantic lead and his looks are even less classically handsome. The message was any straight man is better than TR just like any White actor was better than DW. I have no problem with recognizing all forms of beauty but if one presents a certain POV I expect him/her to be consistent.

Let,s just hope the situation for gays evolve like it did with Black people
ITA. I hope it's soon so as not to be an impenetrable obstacle for TR.

although sadfly interracial romances are still sometimes frowned upon in TV shows.
It's still a controversial subject because many on all sides are opposed to interracial relationships.

Didn't see much of season 5 yet, but George leaves? I love George
George doesn't leave; he dies.

Who else was on the list? Jorge from Lost. Of course, they claimed to love him but they added it was the last season and what more emotional way to end the show than by killing the nice guy and giving him a heroic death.
There's been strong talk about a Lost movie. ABC Studios would be the beneficiary but it would have to pay its surviving cast members well. I'm wondering if this is a trial baloon for killing off Jorge so as to cut the cost of the film.
