| Michelle, I was in Sydney for the fourth of July when I was there. Funnily enough, there were fireworks! Not sure what the occasion was, but we felt right at home.  I hope you enjoy the rest of your trip!
Thanks for the hugs, everyone. My fam drove me back into the city today (with tons of boxes that are now filling up my already cramped apartment) and we had a nice dinner and saw God of Carnage, so that helped my mood.  It just feels weird knowing I can't hop on a train and be back at home.
