The fact of the matter is I came into this thread looking for something that would make me look forward to the show only to become annoyed by that comment. It struck me as akin to hypocritical because it is my belief that this vampire genre as benefitted greatly from TWL and all the craze involved with that franchise. And yet everybody else in the genre continues to take pot swipes at it to make themselves look better. I'm not even a huge fan of Twilight (it's not even S.Meyer's best work) but I hate hypocrisy. So in the moment, my anticipation was overwhelmed by one of my pet peeves.

My RPatzz comment was tongue-in-cheek. I'm not like concerned for his welfare or think he should b theatened by the comparison. I've followed Paul Wesley since he was on Guilding Light (it's part of my initial draw to this thread and show.) He's a cute kid and I've enjoyed watching his career...but so far he's only shown to have about a fourth of RPatzz's charisma. Washboard abs or not. So I didnt take the comment seriously in that way, lol

The Damon/Elena slant does intrigue me so I'll wait to see if they are actually going to explore them or if that side of the triangle(ugh) is handled as just an obstacle for Stefan/Elena. I haven't read the books so I dont even know if that's a plausible direction.
ITA with this. I get tired of the constant Twilight bashing.
