| Hey, I grew up in South Dakota, so yeah, changing from Midwest to Coast or vice versa can be a culture shock. New Yorkers who move to the Midwest often have trouble getting used to driving and mowing their lawns. (The most obvious example I can think of has been all the Hasidic colonies cropping up around the Plains. This has been a bit of a culture shock to both groups because it's customary to share food in most Plains states, though doing so goes against kosher laws. But at the same time, these same people have provided a niche market for ranchers in the Midwest. These days, with kosher slaughter under attack from PETA, though, you'll find the two groups more united against an actual threat from the Coast, namely PETA.) |
