I knew this Peter wasn't the original Peter -- I just never thought about an alternate reality. And after all the AU fanfic I've read!!
This also explains why a couple of episodes ago Olivia kept "seeing" different realities, like Broyles' office furniture moved around. Olivia at the very least has the ability to see into the alternate universe. This was obviously recognized when she was a child, but never put into practice.
