| If I had to guess I would say that when Ben's dad left them he used his lawyer knowledge to not give Ben's mom the money she deserve after the divorce (half of their property and alimony) which meant no more privet school for Ben in the short run. But then one of two things might have happened:
1. Ben's mom fought him and got the money she deserved
2. Ben's mom re-married to another rich man.
