It's always hard with the Captain because they do need to maintain a certain amount of aloofness to seem professional. Otherwise the remaining crew would accuse them of favourtism. Picard and Archer were also portrayed as having limited friendships with their senior crew. And only the occasional hints of a more personal relationship with anybody.
