KATHERINE E. NAPOLITANO
AGE: 52
WITH FAMILY IN BRADLEY BEACH
Katherine E. Napolitano, 52, of Newfoundland, Pa., died Friday, Dec. 5, in Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, New York City. She was the wife of John A. Napolitano Sr., at home. She was born in Middletown, N.Y., daughter of Katherine Lucey Wyluda, Scranton and the late Robert DeFlice Sr. Katherine was a very active member of the Church of St. Anthony and St. Rita's Parish, serving as Director of Religious Education and taught CCD class at the church for over 20 years. She was a graduate of the Class of 74 of Raritan High School, Hazlet. Katherine was active in many community organizations and was a co-founder of Christmas in The Park, Newfoundland and was honored as Citizen of The Year in 1993. Kate loved the Director of Religious Education and dedicated herself to making each year bigger and better for the parish community. Next to being an owner and the chef at Napolitano's Restaurant, Newfoundland, Pa. and being a loving wife and mother, teaching the CCD confirmation class at St. Anthony's was one of her biggest passions in Kate's life. In between her busy schedule, she recently almost finished a presentation for a TV show she wanted to co-produce because writing has always been another passion of Kate's that she put on the back burner for many years while she raised her family and worked. THe TV show is about a town that was finding a way to have people from all religions work together to enrich the community in such a way that loving thy neighbor was real and not just words in a prayer. In her honor, her family will try to have the TV show completed some how because they knew that Kate always wanted to inspire the world on how everyone should try to live in harmony.
In addition to her husband, John and mother, Katherine, she is survived by two daughters, Pilar, a student at LaSalle University, Philadelphia and Amelia Rose, at home; a son, John A. Jr., Marymount College, New York City; a sister, Robin DeFlice of Bradley Beach; three brothers, Robert DeFlice Jr. of Greentown, Pa., Anthony DeFlice of Sicklerville, and Darrin DeFlice of Frisco, Texas; a half sister, Mary Patricia DeFlice of Scranton, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in the Church of St. Anthony of Padua, Main Street, Newfoundland, Pa. Interment was in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling. Memorial remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 100 4th St. Suite 9 & 12, Honesdale, PA 18431, or the Church of St. Anthony, P.O. Box 537, Gouldsboro, PA 18424.
