Yeah I don't think she wrote that scene to make amends with fans at all. She's just recognizing that it okay if you interpret the scene a certain way just as Steve did. She never writes anything to make anyone happy but herself. As you should if you're a real writer. It's YOUR story. The only one that you should please is yourself. Tough beans if a certain group of the fans don't like it. But interpretation is another matter. Anyone can read it whatever way the want based on your own preconceived wants. It not necessarily the RIGHT way (or the true canon) of what the author is actually writing. But she's not denying that you must read it only one way. That's all.

I can't wait to get this book today! "TRUE" soulmates - published! To me that makes it canon and indisputable. How awesome is that.
