I think that Harry realised his feelings for Ginny at just the right time. I think one of the things that gave them such short time was the fact that Ginny wanted to be in denial of hers for so long. But at the same time, would harry have realised it as quick had he and ron NOT caught Ginny and Dean going at it? Perhaps he's have caught onto it....or maybe Luna would have just point blank told him.
