I disagree with the "that one" comment.

I do not think there was any racist, or racial overtones. I think it was just McCain being dismissive (and thereby disrespectful), but based on the question asked about his (McCain's) past voting record. I don't like McCain, but I really don't think he is racist. He has an adopted daughter (non-white) and in the CONTEXT of that remark... It was more to be dismissive than racist. I think you guys are looking for things now, instead of seeing what is really there. Also, I don't think the DNC is going to run with that remark because it is just another negative attacks that will distract people from the main issue on everybody's mind, The Economy.

On the same note, what we witnessed tonight is what Ernest Hemingway called, "Grace Under Pressure" on Obama's part. This is why I cited the Master and Belligerent Warrior story on the other thread. Because it's how adults handle crisis. I know it's easy to get all caught up in the drama and wanting to fight back... But Barack did what he KNEW he had to do in the face of the attacks (by Palin) and that was NOT respond to them and behave like a leader does. In fact Barack was able to come off MORE like he wanted to in the first debate: Presidential. That's not presumptuous on Obama's part, it's smart. It's reassuring to people and it is what he wants to convey this close to the election. Especially, to a room full of Independent and undecided voters.

This is what this election has been about: Who can lead in a time of great uncertainty and crisis. It's very unique because most elections are during times of peace and or relative good fortune. Not so for 2008. Whether this is a good or bad thing depends on which side you are on and how YOU are doing personally (financially). Don't lose sight of the larger meaning even though it is fun to get swept up in the euphoria of "winning", or fighting the good fight.
