| As someone who isn't a proper resident of the UK, i'm not even gonna begin to pretend to understand the full sensitive complexities of that issue. Of which there are many, believe me. However, i think what it comes down to is that they were individual nations and are often still percieved as such in Europe. There appears to be a lot more national pride in being Welsh, Scottish etc than being British. The history of it all comes across as very complicated to my American mind.
