| Have a good vacation VB - Tisha B'Av, that one always sneaks by me. Big sad holiday in the middle of summer! And of course the High Holidays are now just around the corner! That really means the summer is over.
I could never stand on my hands either! Could sort of do a halfway cartwheel, maybe a split. I used to be pretty athletic and did some gymnastics (long long ago and far far away!) Used to be a fast runner and had strong arms, could to stuff on the rings. Now if I can walk from my office to the subway, it is an accomplishment. sigh.
Wow, Michael Phelps got 2 more gold medals last night - and every time somebody swims, they make a new world record. And five minutes later, set even a faster record. Quite amazing. He is so far ahead of anybody else, it is almost embarrassing to watch - if I was the other swimmer, I would want to give up!
Yes, about starting young. I heard last night the Chinese take little girls at 3 away from their parents and put them in gymnastic academies! Reminds me of the old Soviet Union - they did stuff like that with athletes and also dancers. The Chinese have a very long view of history and they will plan for generations, and they have been planning to host these olympics and to win lots of medals.
Those Chinese gymnasts were so cute - also the Chinese divers - excellent. US girls flubbed up last night, fell off the beam, fell on their butts, stepped out of the line on the floor - tsk tsk. That definitely was 'the agony of defeat'! Oh well, perfection under pressure isn't so easy. Easy to sit on the sofa at home and find fault!
I think Michael Phelps was like Jason - a 'little wild man' when he was young, so his mother put him into swimming to use up his extra energy, like Jason went into acting. Olympic quality, both of them! ;> And both have made their mothers very proud.
Can you imagine being 23 years old and such a huge success/making history/breaking records? What does a person do after that, with the rest of their life? Mark Spitz went on to become a dentist Skater Tenley Albright went to Harvard and became a doctor after the Olympics. Oh well, right now he can concentrate on winning more medals, later he can think about what else to do. sigh.
Not raining today (yet) but it was so cold this morning! In the mid 50s (12.8 C)! Wish I could send some coolness out to you Wen baking in that 100 degree heat. Things are very lush and green with all this rain. Interesting mushrooms coming up! LOL!
I didn't know you could do anything but play games on a Wii! That's interesting. I should look into it. (although I don't want Mr ML Jr having 'fun' at home, I want him finding another job!) sigh.
MLette's birthday is around the corner (next week) and all I have for her so far is a card and we don't even have a plan for her party yet. The BF is taking her on a trip next weekend. I want to get her prescription sunglasses for driving her new car - but you can't surprise somebody with those! LOL! You have to get an eye test and pick out what you like, get them fitted to your face, etc.
I stayed up way too late watching the Olympics - why don't they put the 'good stuff' on earlier? Ugh, they had hours and hours of boxing - I can't look at that! I can barely keep my eyes open today... __________________ Jason B is #1 with me "I'm with the vampires" |
