Eric - what do you think of the new REM album? I like some of it but I really hate when producers shift the presence midway through a song - you go from feeling like you're in an auditorium to having the guitar player sitting right next to you. Over production at work!

I just borrowed the new REM album from my library but I have yet to listen to it. I guess it’s that wall of sound. The new Crows album had 2 producers. One did the Saturday nights side and one did the Sunday mornings side.

This past Thursday and Friday I got to see the Counting Crow in concert 2 nights in a row. They played with Maroon 5 and Sara Bareilles. The Crows were awesome. They did not play the same song twice and played a lot of older songs that they have not played in a while.

Aside form getting to hang out with my usual friends I got to hang out with my girl Karen whom unlike my 15 minute commute from my house to Jones Beach she flew 22 hours from Australia to see the band play. She has been a huge fan but due to her location she never got to see the band live. The last time they played Australia they canceled the tour at the last minute.

Night 1 the Crows closed out the show. I have an open mind so I cut the tailgating party early and sat and watched Maroon 5 play just to give them a chance. They did nothing for me. They were like a boy band with instruments. I knew all their songs from them being over played on the radio but I was ready to shot myself.

Night 2 I watched Sara Bareilles. She was ok. She’s no Shiri Appleby but she was pretty hot. Once again the Crows played an amazing set. My only complaints is that it was way to short and that they opened up instead of closing. After the Crows did this epic version of Murder of one which was my friends Karen’s favorite song I left. There was no way Maroon 5 was going to top that even on there best night. I did get to beat the entire traffic home. Which was so cool.

Last night was the launch of nugs.net presents LIVECOUNTINGCROWS | Download MP3 FLAC which is a site that allows you to download soundboard copies of Crow shows. Aside from all of the new shows they are going to be releasing old shows from their vaults. The first 1000 people to register got a free show to download.

My next show is this Thursday at PNC in NJ. I can't wait.

Here is the setlist for both shows for anyone that cares.

Thursday 7/31 Jones Beach

Angels of the Silences (electric)
Up All Night

Hangin Tree
Have You Seen Me Lately
Colorblind
Cowboys
Round Here w/ Mary Queen of Arkansas & HYSML alts
Washington Square

Friday 8/1 Jones Beach

le ballet d'or

perfect blue buildings (sometimes it snows in april alts)

los angeles
sundays
catapult
rain king (someone to watch over me alts)
hanginaround(get myself together alts with cool bass parts and adam playing tambourine???)
accidentally in love
a murder of one (doris day alts)

The alts are inserts that the Crows throw into there own songs. Sometimes they are made up stuff and sometimes they are other people’s songs. It’s the spur of the moment magic that keeps me coming back. Their live songs sound nothing like they do on their albums.

In other news my computer that I use to download all of my music. Got a pretty bad virus. It was one of those fake virus programs. I spend all day trying to fix it. It would not let me load windows. I thought it was a goner. I was ready to cry and format the drive. Thanks to my computer knowledge I fixed the problem and I am currently backing all of my stuff up to my external drive.
