Amanda Louise Seyfried was born on December 3, 1985 in Allentown, Pennsylvania. She began her career as a model at the age of 11. As a teenager, she's appeared on the cover of three Francine Pascal books. She made her move to acting when she was featured on the daytime soap, Guiding Light, and from there her career took off. In 2000, she landed the role of Lucy Montgomery on As The World Turns. From 2002 to 2003, she was casted as Joni Stafford on All My Children. In 2004, Amanda received her breakthrough role in a feature film with Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams. She played Karen Smith, a coveted member of the "Plastics" in Mean Girls. In 2005, she was given one of the nine leading roles in the indie film, Nine Lives (which also starred, Glenn Close, Sissy Spacek, Robin Wright Penn to name a few). She also starred in American Gun, opposite Donald Sutherland, Forest Whitaker, and Nikki Reed.

Continuing her television career, Amanda had a recurring role on the UPN's Veronica Mars, playing the title character's dead best friend (and quite possibly the best dead/flashback character ever on television!) She's also had guest roles on Law & Order: SVU, Justice, House, CSI, and Wildfire. Amanda is currently a series regular on HBO's Big Love, as Sarah Henrickson.

In 2006 and 2007, she had supporting roles in Alpha Dog and Solstice respectively. Amanda can currently be seen in 2008's film adaptation of the play Mamma Mia, as Meryl Streep's daughter, Sophie. Amanda already has two more films slated for release later this year and in 2009 -- Boogie Woogie, with her Mamma Mia costar, Stellan Skarsgard and Gillian Anderson; and filming just wrapped on Jennifer's Body, Diablo Cody's follow-up to Juno. She'll costar with Megan Fox and Adam Brody.

Seyfried fun facts
[+] Put attending Fordham University in New York City on hold to film "Mean Girls."
[+] Was originally considered for the roles of Regina and Cady in "Mean Girls." Instead, she was given the role of Karen Smith.
[+] Originally auditioned for the title role on Veronica Mars but lost the place to Kristen Bell. Instead of playing Veronica she was offered the role of Lilly, Veronica's dead best friend. She was so popular in this role she was brought back more often than ever expected.
[+] Classically trained vocalist since she was 11 -- training in both Broadway and Opera up until she was 17.
