I think it was quite an x-file, but this struggle over whether or not they should be part of it felt weird since they always jumped right in... well, some occasional complaining
And there was nothing familiar apart from Mulder and Scully. The first movie was more connected to the series since they were both still with the FBI, we knew most of the other characters that showed up, we knew many of the basic settings like Mulder's apartment, the fbi building etc...

This new movie as ALL new which was kinda forseeable and still hard to process.
Only Mulder and Scully were our "touchstones" which is why it also had to focus on them so much...
So it really was a whole different thing...and rather un-x-filish in many respects.

I found it hard to expect anything at all with all the insecurities concerning the plot, so it's very easy for me to only see the good sides, but I can totally understand if you feel it should have been a bit different.
