As much as I abhor a romantic relationship between Spike and Buffy (friends/bitter enemies, I don't mind, but lovers? Hells to the no!) I think C/A was much worse. In Season 1, during Parting Gifts, they did that whole kiss thing and it was evident then it didn't work.

They didn't feel anything...at all. No hint of romance, of something more, of any type of emotion that could ever lead into an emotional/physical relationship.

Then, in Season 3, we're supposed to believe that Angel has, over time, developed these romantic feelings for a girl he once found so annoying to be in the same room as?

I don't frakking think so.

At least with Spuffy it was evident where they'd always stood. She had made no qualms about being in love with Angel, years before they'd even gotten together, and Spike knew that, even when they were physically intimate with each other.

So, even though Spuffy probably went thrugh worse facets of their relationship, in a way, it's actually more appealing because it wasn't as contrived as C/A was. At least, with Spike & Buffy, you knew where they had always stood, whereas with C/A you were expected to believe that they'd been harboring these feelings for one another for years.

It was the most force-fed relationship in the history of that show. Hence why it really never got its foot off the ground, thank god.
