| ^Slightly OT, but Menachem Begin and his political party were sidelined for many many years after that and not a lot of Israeli's considered him a hero for that. It took a while for the Israeli public to let him gain power. Also, he was the first Israeli prime minister that signed a peace agreement with an Arab country. I don't think you should compare him to a terrorist that murdered a 4 year old girl.
Back on topic. As much as I sympathize with the families of the soldiers I don't think it was a wise deal to make. This compromises the safety of Gilad Shalit in Gaza and I'm not sure that negotiating with terrorists is a good image in general.
