Ten.  The Hug of All Hugs - 1.07 The Moth
k: "where is he? where is he? where is he?! where's Jack??"
h: "he's in there."
[hurley nods toward the collapsed rock]
k: "does anyone know if he's alive?"
[nobody answers]
k: "is he alive?!"
m: "we don't know. charlie went in there through a tunnel that we dug--but it collapsed."
k: "Why is nobody digging??"
[later--kate's still digging]
m: "hey kate, you need to take a break." k: "i'm fine."
m: "we've got enough people to dig. you keep going at this pace, you're gonna kill yourself."
[kate just looks at michael and continues digging]
w: "hey, it's the doctor!"
[kate looks up, running to jack, hugging him]
Nine.
The Shower Kiss - 4.10 Something Nice Back Home
[jack enters the bathroom, smiling, kate in the shower, he taps on the glass, opening the door]
j: "morning." k: "morning yourself. i bought you a razor."
j: "what? you don't like the scruff?"
[kate laughs]
k: "razor's by the sink jack."
[the shower turns off, jack steps over to kate, handing her a towel]
j: "Morning."
Eight.  Caught in a Net - 2.19 S.O.S.
j: "you okay?" k: "yeah."
j: "oh good so you can hear me. this isn't one of theirs."
k: "no, it's not sophisticated enough.
it must be one of rousseau's traps, hopefully she's not far from here."
j: "it could be a week before she shows up."
[struggling]
k: "what're you doing?" j: "i'm trying to get the gun. i can't get my arm around."
[kate reaches for the gun]
k: "sorry, i don't wanna shoot you."
j: "you got it?" k: "okay ready? got it, got it, got it."
j: "alright. now give me the gun." k: "why? what for?"
j: "i'm going to try to shoot the rope."
[kate aims the gun]
j: "whoa...hey." k: "i'm a better shot than you are."
[jack laughs]
j: "oh, really?" k: "yeah, i told you--i grew up hunting with my dad."
[kate shoots at the rope and misses]
k: "dammit." j: "well at least they know where we are".
j: "okay, now give me the gun." k: "you going to waste another bullet?"
j: "we'll still have 13 more to shoot each other with."
k: "fine. you have a better angle than i do anyway."
j: "oh, that's gonna be your excuse when i make the shot?"
[smiling]
k: "when you make the shot."
[jack shoots, hitting the rope, and the net falls]
k: "Nice shot."
[they laugh]
Seven.
Jack and Kate First Meet - 1.01 Pilot
j: "excuse me. did you ever use a needle?" k: "what?"
j: "did you ever...patch a pair of jeans?" k: "i um...i made the drapes...in my apartment."
j: "that's fantastic. listen, do you have a second? i could use a little help here."
[kate walks towards him]
k: "help with what?"
j: "with this. look, i'd do it myself, i'm a doctor, but i just can't reach it."
k: "you want me to sew that up?"
j: "it's just like the drapes, same thing." k: "no, with the drapes there was a sewing machine."
j: "no, you can do this--i'm telling you. if you wouldn't mind."
k: "Of course i will."
j: "thank you."
[jack hands her a bottle of alcohol]
j: "it's for your hands. save me some. for the...for the wound."
[kate picks up the sewing kit]
k: "any color preference?"
[jack laughs, shaking his head]
j: "standard black."
[kate's sewing]
k: "i might throw up on you." j: "you're doing fine."
k: "you don't seem afraid at all. i don't understand that."
j: "well...fear's sort of an odd thing. when i was in residency my...first solo procedure was a spinal surgery on a sixteen year old kid. girl.
and at the end, after thirteen hours, i was closing her up and i...i accidentally ripped her dural sac.
it's right at the base of the spine where all the nerves come together.
membrane as thin as tissue, and...so it...it ripped open, and the nerves just spilled out of her like angel hair pasta;
spinal fluid flowing out of her--and i...
and the terror was just so...crazy--so Real.
and i knew i had to deal with it. so i just made a choice.
I'd let the fear in, let it take over, let it do it's thing,
but only for five seconds, that's all I was gonna give it.
So I started to count. 1-2-3-4-5. And it was gone.
i went back to work, sewed her up, and she was fine.
k: "if that'd have been me, i think i would have run for the door."
j: "no, i don't think that's true. You're not running now."
Six.  Jack says "I Love You" to Kate - 3.22-3.23 Through the Looking Glass
j: "you okay?" k: "yeah, i just...got a rock in my shoe."
[jack nods, kneeling in front of kate]
j: "he didn't mean it you know." k: "what?"
j: "sawyer, when he said that he didn't want you to go with him. he didn't mean it."
k: "if he didn't mean it, why'd he say it?" j: "he was trying to protect you. that's why i asked you not to come back for me."
[he gets up, starting to leave]
k: "hey. why're you sticking up for sawyer? he'd never do it for you."
[jack smiles, thinking for a bit, he looks back to kate]
j: "Because I love you."
Five.
The First Kiss - 2.09 What Kate Did
j: "kate? what the hell are you doin' out here? what happened in the hatch kate? why'd you leave?
i come back, i find sawyer just lying on the ground. you just took off.."
k: "is he okay?" j: "yes, kate, he's fine."
[kate gets up and starts to walk off]
k: "i'm sorry." j: "are you?"
k: "yeah. i'm sorry. i'm sorry that i'm not as perfect as you!
i'm sorry that i'm not as good!"
j: "what's going on with you?" k: "just forget it."
j: "no don't walk away from me." k: "let go of me. just..."
j: "no, Kate. kate, kate, kate..."
[he pulls her into a hug]
j: "it's okay, it's okay...hey..."
[kate's crying]
k: "this place, this place is crazy. it's just..i can't...it's driving me nuts."
j: "I know. It's okay, It's alright. It's alright. Okay?"
[kate nods, looking into his eyes, she kisses him]
Four.  The Hallway - 4.10 Something Nice Back Home
[jack and kate leave aaron's room]
k: "you're a natural." j: "yeah?" k: "yeah."
j: "my old man used to read me that story."
[smiling]
k: "really?" j: "what?"
k: "it's just sweet hearing you say nice things about your dad."
[jack smiles]
j: "i don't say nice things about my dad?"
[kate smiles]
j: "well he was a good storyteller, i'll give him that."
[kate looks at jack, he walks over]
j: "hey, you okay?"
k: "Just I...I love seeing you with him.
I'm so glad you changed your mind.
I'm so glad that you're here."
j: "me too."
Three.
Kate Recalls Jack's Story - 3.07 Not In Portland
[static over the walkie] k: "jack are you there?" j: "yeah i'm here kate. you okay?" k: "yeah, i...we've got a boat. they're letting us go."
j: "who's letting you go?" k: "the blond woman." j: "so you're safe, you and sawyer?"
k: "yes...yeah." j: "tell me." k: "tell you?" j: "the first day on the beach, the day of the crash, the story that i told you; if you're safe, tell me."
k: "you...were doing surgery on a girl, and you messed up, you made a mistake. you tore something on her back, and all the nerves came loose...
[she begins to cry] and you said you were so afraid. and you said the fear was so--Real.
and you didn't know what to do. so you counted to five--and then you weren't afraid anymore. and then it was just gone.
And you fixed her, You saved her."
j: "i need you to make me a promise kate." k: "jack??"
j: "promise me, that you'll never come back here for me. don't come back kate."
k: "jack, where are you?! please...jack, jack please, where are you?"
Two.  Jack Proposes to Kate - 4.10 Something Nice Back Home
[jack enters the bedroom, kate is asleep] j: "kate. kate. wake up."
[kate stirs] k: "hmm...hey. hey. what time is it?"
j: "it's late. i just got home." k: "were you working?"
j: "no. i just...had to stop and get something, it just...took a while."
k: "hey, what's going on? what's wrong?"
j: "the other night, when i was reading to aaron you said...that i was a natural. do you really...do you really think that i'm good at this?"
[kate smiles, tears forming, adamant]
k: "yeah. you're good at this."
[jack looks to kate]
j: "will you marry me?"
[he pulls out a ring and kate begins to cry] [smiling]
k: "Yes. Of course I will, yes!"
One.
Kate Returns for Jack - 3.13 The Man From Tallahassee
j: "did they hurt you?" k: "no. did they hurt you?" j: "no."k: "what is all this?" j: "this is where they live."
k: "and the people they took--the kids?" j: "they're all safe."k: "safe? so you're with them now?" j: "i'm not with anyone kate."
k: "what did they do you?" j: "nothing." k: "then why are you acting like this??"
j: "there's no w...there's no way that I could..." k: "i came here to help you so why don't you just tell me what's going on!"
j: "i told you not to come back here for me!" k: "i didn't think you meant it."
[kate takes jack's hand] k: "what did they do to you jack?"
j: "i made a deal with them. they're going to let me go."
[with tears in her eyes] k: "where?" j: "home."
k: "when?" j: "first thing in the morning. i can bring back help, it's our best chance."
k: "you trust these people? they are liars why would you believe a word that..."
j: "i trust them because you told me to kate...when you asked me to save sawyer's life."
k: "jack--what did they tell you?"...[the two are interrupted and jack has to go]
j: "i asked you not to come back here for me, and i wish...i wish that you hadn't.
But i will come back here for you." __________________ Taking all the shattered ones.
