| I agree with you completely, Astra. She might think about it rationally later, probably after being away from him awhile when she realizes she misses him. But as a mother, she'll react very emotionally at first. Rita is also a very sensitive soul, so it just makes sense for her character to take it badly at first.
I love it when Rita surprises me though. It's always when she's finding her own independence which I love. One thing about S2 that I really loved was it allowed Rita's character to grow independently from Dexter for a while. In season 1, she used the stability of being with him to find her own voice with Paul, but after his betrayal with Lila, she had to find her own way without him. I liked that it was Dexter, for a change, needing Rita and Rita putting on the brakes. She was sticking up for herself and her dignity, something that took a long time for her to do with Paul.
It makes me happy that Rita is now with Dexter because she wants to be, not because she needs to be. That fact is arguable, I realize, but I think that that's how it is. |
