It was the start of another Summer. All of the townies were getting ready for the families that owned the summer homes near the Lake. The summer was a great time, it was warm...beautiful and I just loved looking around at all of nature. I had lived in Syracuse since I was very young, with my Aunt Pammie in a small modest little cabin-like house on the outskirts of town in the woods. Aunt Pammie's husband had built the cabin when they moved here to start a new life together. But Aunt Pammie's husband died a few years after he finished the house, in a horrible water-skiing accident. She had never quite gotten over it and I didn't think she ever would. My aunt had taken me on when I was very young...around 3 years old after my parents had died in a car accident. It seemed that tragedy followed our family very closely and I knew that the death of her beloved sister was hard on my aunt. Though I was sad that I didn't remember my parents and that I had been too young to get to know them, I loved my aunt as if she were my real mother. In my mind she was the only mother I knew. I had decided to stay and not go off to college just so I could take care of her. She protested profusely not wanting to force me to give up my dreams to help her out but I didn't mind at all, I loved it there and I didn't want to be anywhere else in the world.
My aunt's husband had owned the vehicle body shop and my aunt had continued it even after his death, hiring on the young kids in the town to work for her. It was hard though, owning a business by yourself. As soon as Colbie was old enough to help out he jumped right in to fixing cars and the like. He enjoyed it, it was good hard work and he loved that he could help out his aunt in any way. I was deep in my thoughts when I accidently ran into someone, knocking them to the ground. It was Charlotte Hartigan, I instantly felt badly and leaned over to help her out. "I'm so sorry, I'm really really sorry." I stumbled over my words a little. I wasn't used to talking to any of the girls in town, I usually kept to myself and spent my days working at the shop and then going home to spend a nice evening by the fire reading books with my aunt.
