But, I think it's possible Jim still could have proposed that night or will propose before she goes to NYC. | Jim wanted it to be special, so I get why he dropped the idea right away. Like Monica Geller would say "Andy stole his thunder". I have a feeling S5 will start with Pam answering the phone and the camera will close up first in her hand and then in a beautiful ring.
About the episode, Jim was all kinds of awesome the entire time. I was pretty much squeeing when he left the first message to Ryan, it was a bold move, especially because he didn't know anything about the prison.
His moment with Michael was great. First because it made him think about all the moments with Pam and then because I love when Jim tries to avoid more embarrassing moments for Michael  __________________ Won't you take me where the streetlights glow?
