| Here`s the latest from Berlin.
Today`s matches was headlined by the Sexy Serbs. First of all Jelena defeated Shuai Peng 7-5, 6-0. Then Ana begin her quest to repeat with a 7-6(0), 6-0 victory over Akgul Amanmuradova. Good win by those two. Obviously they had a tangle in the first set, especially Jelena, who started out down 1-4, but they did a good job of toughing it out to win it and then taking control of the rest of their matches.
Makiri continues her good play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Nadia Petrova. Another very good win for Makiri, especially considering that Petrova is a good clay court player.
Alona also had a good win over a clay court specialist today with a 7-5, 0-6, 6-3 win over Anabel Medina Garrigues. Good win there for Alona. I`m very pleased with how she rebounded after getting bageled in the second set.
Unfortunately it wasn`t all good news for some of our favorite hotties.
First of all Anna was defeated by party buddy Victoria Azarenka 6-1, 6-7(1), 4-6. This is yet another tough loss for Team Russia`s cutest star. Anna was up 4-1 in the third set, but sadly blew it and the match. This was a good opportunity for her to get out of the slump, but instead that isn`t the case.
Also Caroline was defeated by Gisela Dulko 2-6, 5-7 and hometown favorite Sabine Lisicki lost to Sybille Bammer 3-6, 6-1, 6-7(5). Sabine was up 5-1 in the third set, but unfortunately couldn`t hold on to that lead. Still she had match point up 6-5, but couldn`t convert it. Then she was up 5-2 in the tiebreaker, but blew that lead too. I can`t believe that Sabine would blow all those opportunities to win the match. I have to be honest and say that she choked today.
So that`s the latest on the action in Berlin. It was a good day for the most part for some of our favorite hotties, but it could`ve been much better if Anna and Sabine had held on their good leads in their matches. Tomorrow we`ll have some intriguting matches. First of all we`ll get another all hotties matchup, this time it will between Makiri and Jelena. They split their meetings last year in a couple of pretty good matches. I think tomorrow`s match has a good chance of being another good tight one. After that match, Ana will take on Sybille Bammer. Also Alona will face the always dangerous Svetlana Kuznetsova. Obviously this will be a very tough match for Alona. I hope that she`ll play hard and give it her best. Later on, she and Kat will take on Gisela Dulko and Betina Jozami. Meanwhile Elena and Dinara Safina will face Casey Dellacqua and Patty Schnyder. As always i hope that our favorite ladies will do well tomorrow.
Finally i saw an update on Dani. She has withdrawn from next week`s tournament in Rome to rehab the stress fracture in her right foot. Obviously i`m sad for the folks in Rome that they won`t be able to see Dani, who will lose a lot of points she got in her run to the semifinals last year. Still the important thing in the long run is that Dani is taking her time rehabing the injury. In fact i`ve heard that she`s off the crutches. So there`s a chance of Dani maybe playing in Istanbul, which is one of the last warmoff tournaments before the French Open.
Anyway here are some pics from today`s matches along with a couple of pics of Ana at the Players` party in Berlin.
Good job Ana. |
